Celts v Sassenachs

Celts v Sassenachs

Saturday 25th January saw Ferndown's annual Aosda Cath, better known as the Old Battle, between the Celts and the Sassenachs. After the pairings were put together and the matches were drawn during breakfast, the two teams battled it out over 18 holes, playing 4BBB matchplay. The Celts were led by John Campbell who inspired them with the call to action "fochabolia" also know as "Hail the Chief". John saw his team go up against the Sassenachs who were led by Danny Sullivan. In the match between the two captains John and his partner Ian Walton saw off Danny and his brother Roger 5&3 and this set the Celts on their way to a 11.5-5.5 victory.

After the golf, everyone enjoyed a traditional Burns Supper which began with Jim Dawson conducting the 'address to the Haggis', in addition to this there was a bag piper and drummer boys. Everyone then enjoyed a 4 course dinner to celebrate the great day of golf and fun was had by all.

Special thanks go out to all those who helped organise the day and to Will and his team for providing great food throughout the day as well as the complimentary breakfast!

All photos taken from the dinner can be found on the clubs Flickr page!

Congratulations to all those in the Celts team for a great victory!
