Course Maintenance Day 7 Report

I am pleased to announce that the Winter maintenance on the Old course has now been completed (minus the fertilising of greens which will be done next week)! It has been a long 7-day stretch and we’ve had to endure some awful weather, but we have pulled it off, by taking advantage of the better days and working until dark. Once again the flexibility of the Ferndown Golf Club Greenkeeping staff and their ability to follow orders has shown through. I am very proud to have completed these works, and to a high standard too. Part of the reason the club is so successful in the summer is the work we do in the winter and long may it continue!

Here is a summary of what the team has achieved in the last 7 days:

  1. Greens verti drained to 9-inch depth.
  2. Greens solid tined with 5/8-inch solid tines
  3. Greens top dressed using 90 tonnes over 19 greens. (mostly by hand)
  4. Greens hand brushed, Rolled, Dragged and rolled again.
  5. Tees cored, Seeded, Top dressed, Dragged, Rolled and fertilised.
  6. Fairways, approaches and aprons Solid tined and verti drained.
  7. All long rough cut down and lots of heather trimmed on both courses.
  8. Alliss fairways and approaches have been solid-tined.
  9. 5 tees on the Alliss course have been cored and collected.

And even after all of that, we will be returning to main greens tomorrow on the Old Course!

This may sound like a lot, and trust me it is... but believe me when I say 'we have done this!!'

So what’s next?

Tomorrow (weather permitting) we head over and officially start the Alliss Course maintenance. This will likely take us a couple of days to complete. We will then head to the range, to carry out our maintenance on that for the year.

In other news, I have started to put this year's buggy route together and it will be open from Monday.

Another long week for the team, but it's all good because we get the weekend to rest up and start on our projects from Monday morning!!

Thank you.

Danny
