Daily Maintenance update (Monday)

Day 1 Course Maintenance

As I approached the yard this morning (after aquaplaning down the first fairway) I just knew the rain gauge would be showing a big number!! I wasn’t wrong! A staggering 28mm had fallen since 9 am on Sunday morning. I knew that all the plans I had originally would have to be changed. That’s not even mentioning the 22mm and 20mm that had fallen on Friday and Saturday.

With machines on hire for this week only, we had to make a move!!

I decided to go ahead and verti-drain all the greens (to a depth of around 8 inches). This has helped to drain them a bit and let some much-needed air in. Hopefully, that will allow us to go ahead and core them tomorrow (as at the moment it looks dry). We will have 2 different groups out and hopefully, we will get round them all.

The team have cored 12 tees today which is impressive and got around without creating too much mess. We thank the golfers today for their patience as we carried this out. We have also solid-tined the front part of the 3rd fairway and the 11th fairway and approach (as that was the driest one).

Tomorrow’s maintenance plan

  • Core and collect on all greens (if no rain overnight) *volunteers welcome*
  • Solid tine fairways and approaches on 1,6,8
  • Verti-drain wet fairways (2nd half of 3rd, 4th and 7th)
  • Tomorrow's course plan will be Holes 1-8 closed.

Play 9 round to 18 on temporary greens and carry only (I’m afraid)

We will be cutting the temporary greens and we will be on the main greens on the Alliss course.

I am loathed to fix any bunkers at the moment as it looks horrendous on Wednesday and Thursday and we will fix them all after the storm has gone through.

It hasn’t been the perfect start but we have made some headway.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's (day 2) report where hopefully we will have some better news.

Thank you.

Danny
