Ferndown Golf Club plays host to the DLCGA Ladies County Championships

The rescheduled Dorset Ladies County Championships got underway on Thursday 17 June with the Johnstone Cup and Silver challenge 18 hole medal qualifier.

Friday was scheduled to be the 36 hole County Championship stroke play qualifier. However heavy and persistent rain resulted in the day having to be abandoned, leave an 18 hole stroke play qualifier to be played on Saturday morning 19 June with the top 8 qualifying for the match play stages being played in the afternoon and Sunday.

From then on golf resumed as normal and Ferndown Golf club was treated to some very special golf and exciting matches, with added interest from participating Ferndown members. Lilli Horn was Ferndown Golf Clubs leading player. However Lilli came up against the very talented, and eventual winner, Melissa McMahon from Lyme Regis Golf Club ,in the first round of the match play and lost a creditable 4/2.

The Final of the County Championships was fought out between Alice Webb, Parkstone and Melissa McMahon and a great match it was with Alice birdieing her two opening holes before Melissa responded with a run of 4 birdies around the turn before she eventually won on the 15th hole.

The Johnstone cup was a marathon affair between Lesley Muddiman from Broadstone and Sandi Stott from Parkstone with the Lesley eventually winning on the 21st hole.

Congratulations to all those who took part and we trust you had an enjoyable visit to Ferndown Golf Club. To see the full results please click here to go to the DLCGA webpage
