Parkstone triumph in the Graham Butler Scratch Foursomes

Graham Butler Scratch Foursomes 2019

It was a challenging start to the Graham Butler Scratch Foursomes for the 14 teams taking part, which include representatives from the three armed forces, for the 2nd year in succession. After a 2 hour play suspension, to allow the morning wet weather to pass through, play got underway at 11am which enabled all 36 holes of golf to be played this year. Indeed there was some welcome sunshine in the afternoon.

Sam Howard for the Royal Navy got his team off to a great start getting a hole-in-one on their 2nd hole "The Shed", a 179 yard par 3. However it was the two pairs from Parkstone Golf Club David Cook/David Norton and Pete Corrick/Andy Rideout who led the morning both shooting gross 73's for a combined 146 (4 over par). The afternoon got underway 2 hours later than planned but still with enough daylight to complete their rounds and it was the pairing of David Cook/David Norton who shone with a gross 67 which included no less than 6 birdies. This score combined with Pete Corrick/Andy Rideout's very steady 76 was more than good enough to win the Graham Butler Scratch Foursomes for Parkstone Golf Club with a combined score of 289. Ferndown Golf Clubs team of Tom Leech, Harry Mitchell, Justin Morris and Nick Hopwood came in runners up with a combined total of 309 followed by the Army team of Mick Burgess, Kerry Roberts, Lewis Phillips and Jordan Slater on 311.
