Summary of the 2022 Colonial Cup

The Dorset team of 8 Juniors arrived in Atlanta, Georgia on the Saturday night and were met by their American hosts.

On the first full day, the team were shown around Cherokee GC before being treated to a local baseball game seated in their very own box hosted by one of the American junior's parents in the afternoon.

The team got to play some fantastic courses, with Crabapple at the Capital city club hosting the WGC championship, Peachtree GC being the second best club in Georgia (behind Augusta) and Atlanta Country Club hosting many PGA tournaments!

On Monday, the competition got underway, playing the opening round at Crabapple GC in a 4BBB format. The lads won 3 - 1, with Oliver Drewitt and Ollie Rogers winning 2&1, Jenson & Toby winning 4&3 and Oscar & Andy solidifying the win.

Whilst the boys faced a challenging, Cherokee North course on the Tuesday, they still managed to play some fantastic golf! Gus led the way with a 3&2 win, followed by good wins for Dominic, Oscar, Oliver, Ollie and a great half by Andy. So after this 5.5 - 2.5 win, the overall score was 8.5 - 3.5.

On Wednesday the team had the joy of playing the magnificent Peachtree GC for the second round of 4BBB matches. These were some really close-fought matches, with wins for Gus & Andy and Oliver & Oscar, making the score for the day 2 - 2 and an accumulative score of 10.5 - 5.5.

The Neil Pike Cup was then played on the Thursday, at The Atlanta Country Club which was in superb condition. The format for the day was a better ball shambles and the boys played with their hosts. Oliver Drewitt and Brady Rackley won the cup with a fantastic score of -7!

Friday was the last day of the Colonial cup at Cherokee south course, so of course, it could only mean one thing... singles matches!

Unfortunately, the day got off to a rocky start, losing the first two matches, but Gus, Dominic, Oscar and Ollie came in with good wins. The last game between Toby and Gavin (USA) came right down to the wire, with Toby being 1 down with 3 to play, but fighting hard and coming back to all square on the 17th. With everyone watching they both fired their third shots into the green of the par 5, 18th (Gavin to 15ft and Toby to 12ft). Gavin gave it a go, but he slid his putt past the hole, this left Toby the opportunity to roll in his birdie putt to clinch the game 1 up, and boy did he take it!

The Colonial Cup was won by the Dorset team, winning 15.5 - 8.5!!!
