Eight Nonagenarians at Ferndown Golf Club Celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday.

To still be swinging a golf club at over ninety years old is quite the achievement and there was no better way to celebrate her Majesty’s birthday than with these loyal members.

On Thursday 28th April, members over 90 years old were invited for afternoon tea with the Captain to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. All those invited have been a member at Ferndown Golf Club since the 1980’s and it was the perfect occasion to celebrate the Queen and these members’ long standing devotion to the Club.

Geoff Morrell, aged 94, and now an Honorary Life Member at Ferndown Golf Club joined the club in 1986 and was President between 2008 and 2011. He is a highly sort after member at the Club as Seniors Organiser and hosts an annual quiz night which is a highlight in the clubs social calendar. His passion doesn’t dampen with age and he manages to walk as many holes of the Championship Course as he can. Golf is not his only love – Newcastle United are high up on the list too!

All our nonagenarians had so many stories to tell from Tom Parr and his flying days as a spitfire pilot to Charles Palmer who owned and ran a golf course in Canada for many years. Both Erma Keys and Pauline Wilcox were past Ladies Captains at Ferndown Golf Club.

As a momento of the day each were given a copy of ‘From Hiltons to Perfection – The History of Ferndown Golf Club’ which has many names and memories that each member can fondly relate to.
