Much of the material here was researched by Frank Foster in 1994 and presents an insight into the key events in the early history of the club and the stories behind them.
Harold Hilton, British Open Champion in 1892 & 1897, three times Amateur Champion, and a well known Golf Course Architect, drew up plans for the course in 1912.
During the period 1915 to 1920 no money was available for the upkeep of the course which deteriorated rapidly.
We are fortunate in having almost complete records covering this period in the Club's history; the only document missing is the Minute Book of the New Ferndown Golf Club Limited.
Looking at the course as we now know it is difficult to imagine the daunting task facing Sir Henry Webb (sometimes known as Sir Harry Webb) and his team who undertook the reclamation of the holes that had been laid out in 1914. The whole area was covered in long grass and weeds, drains were blocked and cattle had grazed the course from 1915 onwards. Although a motor mower was purchased in 1920, horse drawn mowers were still being used on tees fairways and greens!
